Background
Background/Line to take
In a recent motion debate in LegCo on the role and function of Municipal councils and District Boards, the UDHK Members have called for the abolition of appointed members to these Councils and Boards.
District Boards play an essential advisory role on district matters and occasionally on territory-wide issues. They advise the government on the provision and use of public facilities and services and where funds are made available will undertake local improvement and community involvement projects.
The four Chairmen will recommend the retention of appointed and ex-officio members on DBs. Most of the other Chairmen support the retention of the appointment system for the 1994 DBs. They would like the government to recognize the contribution made by appointed members to the work of DBS.
