SOM OF THE MAJOR PROJECTS IN HONG KONG IN WHICH BRITISH COMPANIES ARE INTERESTED
Taing Ma Fixed Crossing: The Anglo Japanese Consortium (AJC), a joint
venture between Trafalgar House, Costain and Mitsui, were awarded the
contract in May 1992 and work on the bridge has now started. The
contract is worth about £550 million.
Kap Shui Mun Bridge: Tenders have been invited for the smaller of the
two bridges linking Lantau with Tsing Yi. The AJC has submitted a
bid. The contract will be awarded later this year.
Airport Platform: Bids from 6 groups are currently being assessed by
the Provisional Airport Authority. There are British companies in two
of the groups bidding viz Balfour Beatty and Costain. Work is due to
start in early August 1992. Contract value is about HK$10 billion.
North Lantau Expressway (Phases I, II and III): The contract to build
Phase I of this project was awarded recently to a consortium which
included AMEC International Construction plc, Britain's largest
contractor. Work on this sector has started. AMEC have also
Phase III of
submitted a bid to construct Phase II of the expressway.
the project will go out to tender later this year. A number of
British companies have expressed an interest in bidding for the third
section.
Route 3: This project includes tunnelling and interchanges on Tsing Yi
Island and a bridge across Rambler Channel to the Kowloon Peninsula.
Tenders will be invited later this year. Three British companies viz
Balfour Beatty, AMEC plc and Lilley have expressed an interest and
will be bidding.
