Understand that police communication with their Chinese counterparts have increased greatly in recent years, (including a 24-hour link with both Guangdong and Shenzhen
Interpol).
Role of Security Liaison Officers
Details not yet settled. But idea is that they should be
sufficiently senior to cut through red tape and get quick cooperation on the Chinese side. Will operate in same way as liaison officers from other police forces in Hong Kong.
- No question of their operating or exercising any kind of jurisdiction in Hong Kong.
The Chief of Police was authorised by the Governor to pursue this idea through his personal access to the Minister of Public Security.
