Ruth plans to leave London on Saturday 23 January at 12.00 on flight BA005.
18. Sunday 24 January: Ruth arrives at Tokyo Narita airport at 08.55, where she would prefer to transfer by rail to Tokyo central. (Again I should welcome the Embassy's advice as to whether it is necessary to pre-book, and to reserve a seat on the train). Where would you suggest that she stays? (There would be no problem for Ruth in staying in an hotel, if there was no available space at the Residence.) The rest of Sunday will be free.

19. Monday 25 January: I should be grateful for the Embassy's help in arranging Ruth's programme for the day. seems sensible, unless you advise otherwise, to arrange a visiting programme separate from Sir Nigel's to get the maximum out of the visits. Ruth wishes to see appropriate UK securities houses in the main; plus Nomura. She is quite happy to travel by underground throughout the day; and it would be very helpful if she could be accompanied by (perhaps) Mike Cowin, from the Embassy.
20. Ruth's evening programme should, of course, dovetail with Sir Nigel's (briefing over either an Embassy dinner or an engagement involving UK securities houses and banks).
21. Tuesday 26 January: bilaterals (all day) at the Ministry of Finance. Will Ruth be within walking distance or should she expect to take a taxi?
22. Tuesday evening: a question mark here depending on what the Japanese arrange, presumably.
23. Wednesday 27 January:
Ruth will depart from Tokyo Haneda at 07.45 on the same flight (NH15) as Sir Nigel, arriving Osaka at 08.45. It is more sensible for them to be met or should they make their own way? Ruth will need somewhere to stay.
24. Here, again, it would be useful if Ruth could pursue a programme separate from that of Sir Nigel (unless you advise to the contrary). This should include, if possible, a trip to the Osaka Stock Exchange and calls on UK houses; probably also Morgan Stanely? What about commodity exchanges?
25. Wednesday evening?
26. Thursday 28 January: Ruth would like to visit Kyoto in the morning (perhaps Sir Nigel would like to see this too). Would you advise whether she will have time to do something in the afternoon before catching flight KE723 from Osaka at 15.40, arriving, Seoul at 17.30.

Would Mr Longworth to whom I am copying this letter let me know whether it is advisable for Ruth to be met, or make her own transfer arrangements and where to. As regards the
