MR, STEWART TO VISIT MAJOR INDUSTRIAL CENTRES IN THE FAR EAST
Mr Allan Stewart MP, Minister for Industry and Local
Government, will undertake a series of important engagements during a tour of Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong which he begins
next week.
Mr Stewart, who is Chairman of the Locate in Scotland
Supervisory Board, will arrive in Japan on Sunday, 13 September to take part in a concentrated programme of visits to Japanese companies and local prèss briefings in the Osaka and Tokyo regions. The principal focus will be to promote Scotland as a location for inward investment.
Mr Stewart will then Aly on to Taiwan on Saturday,
19 September, for a private affit.
In the first-ever
first-ever visit to Taiwan by a Minister
Minister from The
Scottish Office and only the second visit by any British
Government Minister Mr Stewart will be the guest of[a major British trading firm with interests in Taiwan.] Private talks
will also take place with other firms and interested parties
about economic and commercial matters.
Before returning to Britain on Thursday, 24 September,
Mr Stewart will stop-over briefly in Hong Kong where, as well
as inward investment business, he will be promoting the
interests of Scottish firms in the subcontract and supply
opportunities which are expected to arise from the Hong Kong
Airport Project.

Scotland's Tokyo and Hong Kong offices, and Hugh Morison,
Under Secretary of The Scottish Office Industry Department.
