INSPECTION OF POSTS IN THE USA
1.
Posts in the United States (including missions in New York and our Honorary Consul in Puerto Rico) are to be inspected between January and March next year. NAD have to provide the Overseas Inspectorate with a short brief of each post, ie Washington, New York, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
2.
The briefing needs to cover the following topics on which I should be grateful for your contributions:
(a)
(b)
(c)
3.
Your main requirements from the Post (essential, important or desirable) and how these are being met;
What developments are foreseen in the next six years which will change your demands on the post;
Any specific points you would like the Inspectors to look into eg difficulties faced by staff in post or tasks routinely performed for your department which could be reduced or eliminated.
If you have no requirements from US posts, I should be grateful for a nil return. Please keep briefing short, but include any background necessary to explain points made in the briefing. It would be helpful if departments could summarise their dialogue with the post on reporting requirements. Please refer to any significant activity undertaken by post on your behalf and to any recent exchanges of correspondence or key policy files which the Inspectors should be aware of.
4.
I should be grateful to receive contributions on the above lines by 13 November so that NAD can collate the material and submit to the Inspectors by their deadline.
