BC was handcuffed and led to collect his luggage and personal property from the main border crossing building. He was then led out to a var and handcuffed to the inside of the vehicle. He was escorted by five people in plain clothes, two armed police and the game Court prosecutor's office official. On the subsequent journey, BC was not questioned or spoken to
or spoken to and as the escortin party spoke Fukianese, he was unable to understand what they were saying. Both during his initial detention at Shenzhen and during this journey, his repeated questions as to the reason for detention were ignored The party stopped at Shantou on Sunday, June 14, 1992 for dinner and eventually arrived at Quanzhou in Fujian Province at about 2200 hours that evening.
On arrival at Quanzhou, BC was led into the AIC office where he was told by staff that he would be detained that night and was asked to sign a certificate stating that he was willing to be detained by the Quanzhou City Public Security Bureau. He signed the document and was taken to the above location situated at Eulanxian. OM arrival, he was searched again and handed over one HK$500 note which was all the money that remained on his person. He was given. his personal washing items and one set of clothes from his own belongings and witnessed his personal property locked away. AIC staff told him politely that the detention centre would take good care of him.
He was led to a cell already occupied by 12 other inmates. Inside the cell there was one bed only. The other inmates stated that they had been instructed by the guards to treat him well, however required to fight with each of the 12 inmates before he could be accepted. Having been hurt during the ensuing fighting, he was in too much pain to sleep that night.
On Monday, June 15, 1992, BC was provided with breakfast and for the first time since he had been detained was allowed to take a shower. Later that morning, detention centre staff led him out to an enquiry room. This room was divided by a metal grill. BC sat on his own on one side of the grill on a chair. On the other side wag a desk. BC was questioned by between three to five staff daily, which were the same staff who had escorted BC from Shenzhen.
There followed a routine of questioning morning and afternoon between Monday to Friday. BC cannot clearly recall the chronology or details of all the questions asked. However he attempted to answer the questions truthfully and to the best of his knowledge. Questioning started with his personal background and details of his relatives and family.
