Chun Kong of Wen Wei Po today refuted a recent statement by Martin Lee of the UDHK that HK could set up its own Court of Final Appeal before 1997 and China could not reject it when the court was in full operation. the writer said such a suggestion was "ludicrous" because before 1997, HK's final appeal court was the

Privy Council.

He believed Mr Lee's suggestion was aimed at confronting China.

ECONOMY

More papers had expressed concern over inflation. Sing Tao Daily hoped the Urban council would shelve its fee rise plans while Wah Kiu Yat Po said the Government, residents, workers as well as employers should join hands to combat inflation. The HK Times said the government should consider increasing profits tax as a means of boosting revenue.

The HK Economic Times was optimistic about RK's economy next year while Sing Tao Evening Post said the important thing was that residents could get a fair share of the fruits of HK's economic growth.
