Dear Mr Patten
I am writing to ask for your assistance in publicising one of Britain's biggest export success stories which has a huge impact on the daily lives of the people of Hong Kong.
As I am sure you are aware, fixed route public transport plays a very important part in the daily life of Hong Kong.
In 1991, 2.77 billion passenger journeys were undertaken. Large double deck buses accounted for 50% of these.
These journeys are carried out by approx. 3,700 double deck buses, 90% of which have been supplied by my Company, Leyland Bus Exports Ltd.
1,000 Leyland Olympians
The bus We have supplied since 1983 is called the Leyland Olympian and we are about to ship our 1,000th unit to Hong Kong. It is to celebrate this milestone that we would like to enlist your help.
We would like to "hand over" the 1,000th Olympian chassis to you on behalf of the people of Hong Kong, some time during June. The venue would be whatever is convenient to you.
This would involve approx.
30 minutes of your time to be photographed with the vehicle by the Press. We would hope that this will generate positive publicity for the Leyland Olympian in both the UK and Hong Kong.
Kowloon Motor Bus
-
This particular vehicle is destined for the main operator in Hong Kong Kowloon Motor Bus. with 2,900 buses, not only are they the main operator in Hong Kong, they are also the largest privately owned bus company in the world.
