Sir
ACCEPTANCE OF OUTSIDE APPOINTMENTS OR ENGAGING IN BUSINESS ACTIVITIES AFTER RETIREMENT.
1 I have the honour to refer to Sir Alec Douglas Home's
Despatch of 25 May 1972 which revised the policy concerning the
acceptance of outside appointments or engaging in business
activities after retirement by Governors and other members
of the public service.
2 It has now been decided to modify the arrangements for
public officers (other than Governors) so that the administrative
practice will be that, in the case of Senior Officers:-
i)
ii)
iii)
permission will normally be granted after 3 months
from the last day of service (ie, excluding retire-
ment leave);
Governors will have discretion to give immediate

do so;
Governors will have discretion to withhold per-
mission for up to 2 years in exceptional circum-
stances.
