APPOINTMENTS AFTER RETIREMENT BY GOVERNORS OF DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

1.

335

The recent case of a former Governor taking up employment in his old Territory immediately after his retirement, has highlighted the need for us to look at the way in which the Rules on the acceptance of such employment can be made more accessible to future appointees.

2. There are 3 documents which provide the doctrine. These are Sir A Douglas Home's Despatch of 25 May 1972; Sir G Howe's Despatch of 18 October 1984; and DSP Volume 4 Chapter 3.13. I attach copies of each for reference.

3.

Would it be possible for Recruitment Section to ensure that, in future, all Letters of Appointment issued to contract Governors of Dependent Territories have these documents attached or, if this is not practical, that reference is made to them in their Letter of Appointment?
