Lord Wilson has asked me to pass you the following
message: -

"After much nail-biting by everybody here,
including myself, it is tremendous news to
know that you will be Hong Kong's next
Governor. Many congratulations.
It will
be no easy job: but I can honestly say
that I can think of few tasks which are more
worthwhile or more significant.
I very much hope there will be a chance to have a decent talk with you when I am in
London next week. I am trying to arrange this separately. Meanwhile, very best wishes
to you and Lavender from Natasha and myself."
