In brief, Mr Patten needs to :

apply for a Special Permit (this takes about 7 days to process); and

pay a fee of HK$170 for the first dog and HK$40 for the second.

We can easily arrange the permit. Could you please ask Mr Patten to fill in the enclosed form and return it to us by fax? Might it be easier if we pay the fee, and Mr Patten reimburses us when he arrives?

At the UK end, health certificates for dogs (dated not more than 14 days before their departure) will need to be arranged. Ideally, these should be made out by a Local Veterinary Inspector (LVI). The dogs should be flown to Hong Kong on a direct route. Since the Pattens are coming here via Singapore, they will not be able to bring the dogs with them. The airline concerned will give you information on what is required to export the animals.

I understand, for example, that they need to travel in special IATA cages. A copy of the Special Permit, which we will send you, and the health certificates should accompany the dogs.
