1. Now that the 'cuckoo has left the W13 nest, I wanted to record our thanks for your forebearance in allowing us to preempt your Main Building office over the last 11 weeks.

It was crucial that we should offer Mr Patten a full service from day one of his appointment: the media and other pressures on him certainly started from that day. A rapid search showed that there really was no other suitable set of rooms in the building. By colonising W13 immediately we were, I think, able to get off on the right foot with the Governor-Designate: not an insignificant part of HKD's
objectives!

I imagine we caused you a good deal of inconvenience in the process: many thanks for tolerating it.

You now have vacant possession!
