According to Hong Kong trade statistics, Hong Kong's domestic exports to the UK experienced a decline of eight per cent reaching HK $13,496 million. Clothing was still the leading category, constituting 54 per cent of the total. Other categories enjoying higher growths were cotton fabrics, woven (+15 per cent), parts for office/auto data processing machines (+13 per cent) and printed matter (+12 per cent). Re-exports to the UK rose by 36 per cent to HK $12,107 million, of which 65 per cent originated from China.
Hong Kong imports from the UK was valued at HK $14,118 million in 1990, an increase of 9 per cent over the previous year. The bulk of these imports included machinery and transport equipment, with a share of 37 per cent. Other categories showing significant growths included manufactured tobacco (+71 per cent) and power generating machinery and equipment (+34 per cent).
