Because Mr Patten showed so much callous indifference to the plight of these, his fellow British people, many of whom are unnecessarily dead and some so mutilated and shell shocked they never recover, it is very unlikely he will show anything but the same callous indifference to the plight of the Hong Kong people, who are not British. As a taxpaying student who has to contribute to Mr Patten's £150,000 salary and expenses I feel it is important that your Council and ALL the Hong Kong people should know, in advance, just what kind of callous, indifferent, self interested man you are getting. I found him a very, very uncaring person, with more interest and time for nuturing and promoting himself and his TV image than in acting for his vulnerable, defenceless fellow citizens. looks as if 25,718 other people in Bath felt the same. very, very sorry we are sending you someone who has a proven record of indifference to the plight of defenceless, helpless people and who refuses point blank to help them. Mr Patten is going to Hong Kong for one reason only, the benefit of Mr Patten. It is very unlikely ne would take the risk of applying to another constituency to be MP; he could be booed and jeered again. If Mr Patten had acted for his constituents as MPs like Jack Ashley and Stuart Brown did, he would have had the goodwill and appreciation of the voters. He did not have our goodwill because Bath voters saw a selfish, self interested person who would not act for them.
