Paper was invented by the Chinese some two thousand

years ago, and for calligraphic purposes is even now Made from the ba of trees, hemp, amboo, mulberry and rattan. Livey an be mixed

various purposes.

The type of paper for the finest calligraphy 1 called "Isuan" (4), which is made from sandalwood. This paper is water- absorbent and capable of producing different "shades" of blackness when ink is applied.
