You kindly passed on, while you were in London, the minute of 27 April from Mr Dominic Law giving advice on the Chinese name which the new Governor should adopt.
Having consulted widely among Sinologists, Mr Patten has concluded that the right course will be to accept option A ie Pang Ting-hong. He notes that this is already widely used in the Hong Kong media, has an attractive connection with "stability and prosperity" and is not wholly unlike his name in English pronounciation.
I am not sure whether anything more needs to be done to mark the official adoption of the name that is already unofficially current. But perhaps you could arrange for any steps that need to be taken.
