USUAL START

1. In accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration on

the question of Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China will

resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong with effect

from 1 July 1997.

The Chinese Government requests the Secretary-General, in

exercise of his power under the provisions of No 2086 of the

Radio Regulations annexed to the International

Telecommunication Union Convention, Nairobi 1982, to amend the

'VRA-VRZ' series in Appendix 42 of the Radio Regulations to

read 'the People's Republic of China (Hong Kong Special

Administrative Region)' with effect from 1 July 1997.

The Chinese Government believes that the Government of

the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is

requesting the Secretary-General that from 1 January 1997, the

allocation of the 'VRA-VRZ' series should be changed to read

'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (Hong

Kong).' The Government of the People's Republic of China understands and supports this request.

4. The Government of the People's Republic of China

recognises that in accordance with the provisions of the said

No 2086 of the Radio Regulations this change will be subject

to confirmation by the following radio conference.
