Dear Mr. Minister,

We Asian Shipowners' Forum are very anxious about pirate attacks to vessels in the Malacca/Singapore Straits, which situation is reportedly getting worse.
The Forum is comprised of seven regional associations of Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, ASEAN. and Australia as well as Japan and was convened for the first time in April this year to discuss various issues common to all the Asian shipowners,
At the first conference held in Tokyo on 6th April, the piraci issue was raised as one of the most serious problems we are no confronted with. After long and serious considerations, the Foru adopted a resolution, which copy is hereby attached, and decided to appeal to all the countries concerned so that their governments would take necessary measures to police and to prevent such barbarous acts.
Needless to say, such piracy acts, if left intact, will not cal; cause loss of human lives on board and in the worst case marine pollution but possibly undermine sound development of
regiona. economies. From these points of view, we would be grateful if your government could take appropriate actions immediately.
Yours sincerely
