This visit was mainly fact-finding. The delegation were briefed on the
Shenzhen Airport and the delta ports in respect of their handling capacity, operation,
facilities available, current constraints as well as future development plans. Members
were also informed of the major infrastructural developments achieved by Guangdong
during the 7th Five-year Plan (1995-1990), the main development proposals under the
8th Five-year Plan (1991-1995) and the latest development in the Guangzhou-
Economic and Technological Development Zone. The possible implications of these
latest infrastructural developments of Guangdong for similar developments in Hong
Kong were discussed and views exchanged on major lands and planning issues of
mutual interest. The visit was fruitful and provided the delegation with first hand
information on the economic and physical development of Guangdong and provide an
opportunity for the delegation to meet face to face with the officials in Guangdong
Province who are responsible for the planning and development of the Region.
