The port development in Foshan has the following characteristics:
(a)
A hierarchy of port facilities has been established according to the scale
of the townships. All the facilities are built along Xijiang and Beijiang,
which pass through every county and district in the prefecture.
(b) Combination of transport modes is easy, i.e. water/water, water/road,
railway/water, etc.
(c)
The small scale of the port facilities allows flexibility, convenience, cheap
and efficient services as compared with larger ports.
(d)
The ports provides integrated services from cargo delivery to custom
clearance under one agency, therefore avoiding complicated procedures.

With the future growth of the Pearl River Delta, Foshan is likely to
benefit from the ambitious development programme of the Eighth Five Year Plan
