agreed that the Covenant as applied to Hong Kong should
continue LO apply to the Hong Kong SAR after 30 June 1997.
The Joint Declaration contains the following text
'The provisions of the International Covenant on
Civil and Political Rights and the International
Covenant оп Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
as applied to Hong Kong shall remain in force'
(last paragraph of Section XIII of Annex I to the
Joint Declaration).
Nevertheless,
the Chinese side may find it helpful if the
side were to set out further background and details
on how the Covenant applies in practice to Hong Kong.
