Report on familiarisation visit to Hong Kong by

a MFA delegation led by Mr Zhao Jihua

(26 April - 2 May 1992)

Mr Zhao Jihua, Director of Hong Kong and Macao

Office (HKMAO), Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA),

led a 3-member delegation to visit Hong Kong from 26 April

to 2 May 1992.

The delegation comprised Mr Zhao Jihua, Mr Cheng

Ruoyu (First Secretary, НКМАО, MFA) and Mr Zhao Zhanbin

(Attache).

They were

reasonably

informed of general

affairs in Hong Kong but less familiar with the work of

HKG.

The visit programme

(attached) covered briefings

on the management of port activities, port developments,

Hong Kong/China economic relations, structure of the Hong

Kong Government, monetary policies, work of the Political

Adviser's office, development of Shatin New Town, work of

the Regional Council and progress of the Airport Core

Programme Projects and the new airport project. Site

visits to container terminals, the Stock Exchange, the

Futures Exchange, Shatin New Town, the Science Museum and

Chek Lap Kok new airport site were also included in the

Social functions were hosted by the Deputy to

the Governor, SCS, SCA, PA and S for Tsy. The Chinese

guests found the visit programme tight but manageable.

They were satisfied with the nature and quality of the

briefings they received.
