The Report has cleared the REX Committee, and will go to the EP Plenary in Strasbourg in July.
1.
2. Hindley's draft report on EC/Hong Kong relations was voted through the REX Committee on 21 May, with no substantial amendments and very little debate.
3. There is likely to be a more substantial debate at the July Plenary in Strasbourg.
Comment
4. We have firm undertakings from Andriessen to get the EC Delegation Office in Hong Kong open this year. No decisions have yet been taken on the external delegations dossier. The Brittans are still watching progress carefully for us. But we could usefully take opportunities to prod Andriessen, for example at the end of June. It would be helpful if the Commission could announce something firmer in responding to the EP debate.
