GOVERNOR'S MEETING WITH TAIWANESE OFFICIALS
1. I attach a cutting from the SWB of a Wen Wei Po commentary on a meeting between the Governor and a delegation from the Taiwanese Industrial Chamber (of Commerce?), which included Hsu Shengfa, a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the KMT. It quotes Mr Patten as saying "this meeting has broken the precedent whereby Hong Kong Governors refrained from meeting Taiwan officials for years, with the hope of exchanging views on bilateral economic exchanges and trade".
2. I think it might be worth asking the PA's office for a little background on this meeting.
