1.
During my lunch with Jack Perry last week (in which he gave me the Ma version of recent events), he suggested that it would be a good idea if Ma could meet me privately for a general off-the-record chat. I said that I would welcome
this.
2. Jack Perry has now telephoned to say that he had put this to Ma who would welcome it too and has invited me to phone his Secretary to propose a time for a private lunch or dinner, in the week following Zhu's visit.
3. I am ready to do this, if you agree. Informal exchanges (on the Galsworthy/Guo lunch pattern) are something sadly. lacking with the Embassy here though I have had irregular lunches á quatre (or more) with senior members of Ma's
staff.
