When will you consult the Chinese on localising
the official Secrets Acts?
We have no date for consultation on the Official
Secrets Acts. This is not one of our priority
items.
The UK Official Secrets Acts 1911 to 1939 apply to
Hong Kong, but in the UK s.2 of the Official
Secrets Act 1911 has been repealed and replaced by
the official Secrets Act 1989. Why has this not
been done in Hong Kong?
We have recently requested HMG that the Privy
Council extend the 1989 Act to Hong Kong by
Order-in-Council.
