UK/HK JOINT FUNDING SCHEME
Thank you for your letter of 13 November. I am grateful for your help in making these enquiries.
We have consulted Hong Kong Department but no one here has any knowledge of an approach from the HKG about the future of the UK/HK Joint Funding Scheme. It is somewhat
satisfactory that reports are circulating in the erritory about a possible review of the Scheme but that so far nothing seems to have been said directly to us, the Scheme's co-sponsor. It would be helpful to have your advice on how we should pursue enquiries. Should we, or you on our behalf, now write formally to the Education and Manpower Branch, or elsewhere, referring to the ECS report (do we incidentally know where ECS got their report from?) and saying that obviously HMG as co-sponsor of the Scheme would wish to get very early notice of any possible local review of the present arrangements? As I indicated before, given our difficult funding situation on scholarships globally for 1993/94 and onwards, our concern is now
urgent.
