SHORT ACCOUNT OF S K TANG BEQUEST
1.
Sir S K Tang bequeathed £1 million in 1986 to the
British Government, the interest from which was to be used
for charitable purposes in the UK at the discretion of HMG.
2. After much deliberation, the decision was taken that one
third should go to Cancer Research and two thirds to fund
the UK/HK Scholarship Scheme.
3. The funds are presently being held in Hong Kong where
UK/HK Scholarship Fund has access to them but, not Cancer
Research. The funds need to be brought over here before
1997 at the latest.
4. In May 1991, based on legal advice, the HKD submitted an
application to set up a Trust Fund to Mr Venables of the Charity Commission.
5. Since May, Mr Venables at the Charity Commission has
been particularly uncommunicative. He has spoken to us once in November when it was discovered that the papers had gone
astray and needed to be resent. Our last letter was from
Mr Ricketts on 28 January, we still await a reply. Phone
calls of 15 January, 25 and 26 February, 4 and 5 March, have
never been returned.
6. At the very least we need a progress report on "action
to date".
