CPA currently operates a fleet of 39 wide bodied aircraft. The fleet is made up of 8747s (including the new 400 series) and Lockheed Tristars. CPA have orders and options on another 26 B747-400s and 20 Airbus A330 aircraft to replace their TriStars in the mid-1990s. CPA has an ail Rolls Royce powered fleet. It was the first airline to use the RB211 engine on the B747-400 and will be the first airline to use the Rolls Royce Trent engine in the A330.
a UK owned airline, CPA contributes to the UK balance of payments from the purchase of Rolls Royce engines and other British equipment. The British content of the A330 is likely to be in excess of 50% in value terms.
6. All CPA aircraft are maintained by HAECO, a public Hong Kong company, controlled by the Swire Group, with headquarters at Kai Tak airport. HAECO provides services and support for a number of airlines operating into Hong Kong and accepts ad hoc contracts for airlines worldwide.
7. As a result of an inter-airline agreement concluded January 1990, CPA have acquired 35% of the share capital of Hong in Kong Dragon Airlines (Dragonair) which is the second force Hong Kong international carrier operating short haul sectors in the region. CPA have appointed their people to the key management positions in Dragonair although Dragonair continues as a separate entity. There has already been some route rationalisation between the two airlines, the most significant being on the routes to Peking and Shanghai which have been taken over by Dragonair.
