Dear Mrs. Lo,

IAEA Presentations

With reference to the initial confirmation of the captioned event by the IAEA dated 10th December, 1991, I wish to provide the following details for Ms. Rita Scott's follow-up discussion with the Director General.

2. The availability of venue leads us to propose two different

dates, they are :

Option 1 :

Date

Venue

21st May (Thursday) Hong Kong Convention and

Exhibition Centre

&

22nd May (Friday)

Option 2:

18th June (Thursday)

Hong Kong Museum

&

of Science & Technology

19th June (Friday)

3. We chose 21st, 22nd May as option 1 for two reasons : 1) As indicated earlier in our correspondence with the IAEA, it is our intention to provide the media with the opportunity to meet and discuss all aspects of nuclear issues with nuclear experts prior to fuel loading of the Daya Bay Unit 1. Although the construction programme has now been adjusted, we still prefer to make the presentations available to the media at an early opportunity. As nuclear fuel is scheduled to be delivered to the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant in May 1992, we hope that the seminar would coincide with the fuel delivery event which might generate considerable media interest; and 2) we understand that some of the IAEA experts might have gone on leave in June. Our primary concern is, of course, to have full support of the IAEA experts to facilitate fruitful discussion and an effective exchange of nuclear information in the seminar. We expect that the timing of the seminar in late May will fit better into their schedule.
