DRAFT LETTER FROM MR PATTEN'S PRIVATE SECRETARY
Mr P Shortall
5 Bayview Terrace
Derry
Northern Ireland
Thank you for your letter of 27 April addressed to Mr Patten.
I have been asked to reply.
The prospects of investment from Hong Kong, as I am sure you realise, are limited by the effects of recession on markets worldwide. It is not for the Governor to advise potential exporters on opportunities in Northern Ireland. What you require is to get your message direct to potential investors.
The Northern Ireland Industrial Development Board through
their representative, who is responsible for Hong Kong, target
the electronics sector in the Territory. Your letter has therefore been passed to the IDB representative to follow up during his visits. I hope that these secure potential investors in this very important sector.
