We have also developed relations within the
framework of international organisations. For example,
over the past year, the Trade Department has been
building up a dialogue with the Taiwanese under the
umbrella of APEC on a number of issues covering
bilateral trade, intellectual property and customs
operations etc. The Secretary for Trade and Industry
has met with Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs at
APEC Ministerial forums. The Director-General of Trade
has accepted the invitation of the Director-General of
the Taiwanese Board of Foreign Trade to visit Taiwan
under the APEC umbrella. This is likely to take place
in the first half of next year. Another example is the
Asian Development Bank. At the ADB's Annual Meeting of
the Board of Governors held in Hong Kong in May this
year, the Governor of the Central Bank of China in
Taiwan (in his capacity of Taiwanese ADB delegation
