The key factors seem to me:
-timing of
possible Labon
foreign fecretary visit (likely 'to be before the Daim's
arrival in
any Cafe, which width not be defore mid- Mary Annomgement of major Contracts. most of the hobbying work will have bee done before the Heap Leaves.
I have now settled my departure date from Tunis with
Bul
the FCO and hope to leave on or around 9 April, flying with Probably, ok?
my wife direct to London. It was agreed during my February visit to London that the briefing tour for Hong Kong should begin on 23 April and run through to 8 May, with the possibility of an overrun. My aim had been to get to Hong Kong in the latter part of that month.
2.
Henry Keswick has just written to me on behalf of the Hong Kong Association asking me to be his guest at the Dragon Boat dinner in London on 10 June. I have acknowledged, explaining that my dates are the subject of negotiations with London and promising a reply in the course of April.
3. It would, in fact, suit me rather well to stay on until June, not least because I can take my wife off on a proper holiday a luxury we have not had for some time. I sounded out the DTI and Peter Heap on the arguments for a May arrival in Hong Kong and they did not feel too strongly that a five or six week interregnum would be damaging. But I recognise that there may be important presentational arguments and am happy to leave the decision to you.
