ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK PRIME MINISTER'S MÆETING WITH MR LI PENG IN RIO DE JANEIRO
We have
I promised Terry Furness last week that I would send him a short contribution to the briefing which has been prepared for this meeting, taking place on 11 or 12 June. This is enclosed. drafted it in the form of a contribution to a PS/No. 10 briefing letter, in order to match the format of the briefing which has already been prepared. Please let me know if it presents you with any problems.

2. I shall be in touch with you shortly about the terms of a reply co Hong Kong telegram no. 1343 of 19 May. I sent Terry Furness a copy of my minute of 1 June to Peter Freeman, to which a draft reply was attached. This is still under discussion here. Before deciding on a definitive line we may wish to discuss the matter with Adrian Davis, the British member of the constituency office in Manila, who will be calling on us on Wednesday morning 17 June in the course of his consultation visit. Meanwhile it would be helpful if you could let me know by telephone whether the line which I propose in my draft telegram is one which you would find acceptable.
