Swire Pacific

A surprise result was the 25 per cent growth in profit for 1991 reported by Swire Pacific to HK$3.1 billion (US$397 million). The group's performance was a sharp turnaround after the 20 per cent profit drop in 1990.

Cathay Pacific

Hong Kong's flag carrier and Swire subsidiary, Cathay Pacific Airways, finished the year with a profit of HK$2.95 billion (US$378 million) a dip of 1.5 per cent over the previous year. Market forecasts had predicted a drop of up to 15 per cent in profits.

Jardine Matheson

Leading hong, Jardine Matheson, turned in an 18 per cent increase in net profits to US$270.8 million (HK$2.1 billion), boosted mainly by contribution from its wholly- owned subsidiary, Jardine Pacific and its unlisted financial arm, Jardine Fleming. Turnover rose by 20 per cent to US$7.2 billion (HK$56,2 billion).

Hongkong Land

Central District's premier landlord and member of the Jardine group, Hongkong Land reported an 11 per cent increase in profit to US$298.1 million (HK$2.33 billion), compared with the record 39 per cent growth of the previous year.

Sun Hung Kai

Property developer, Sun Hung Kai Properties, has reported an impressive 107 per cent interim profit growth, triggering an upward revision of the company's forecast for the full year. In the first six months, the company chalked up earnings of HK$2.67 billion (US$342 million).

Television Broadcasts

Sir Run Run Shaw's Television Broadcasts Ltd saw profit attributable to shareholders fall 23.7 per cent to HK$250 million (US$32 million) in 1991.

Playmates down

Ninja Turtles distributor, Playmates International, has reported a drop in net profit after tax, but before extraordinary items, of almost 28 per cent. For the 12 months to the end of December, profit was HK$881 million (US$113 million).
