Hong Kong's links with the Commonwealth after 1997
Once
Hong Kong is a member of the Commonwealth through its status as a dependent territory of the United Kingdom. China resumes sovereignty in July 1997, Hong Kong will cease to be a member.
- We would certainly not oppose the continuation of contacts between individuals or institutions where these were beneficial to Hong Kong and agreable to the sovereign power.
What about Associate Branch status of the CPA?
- The Hong Kong Branch has told the Secretariat that it cannot commit the Legislature of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to joining the CPA as an Associate Member, even if such a status were created.
