In order to ensure that the port of Hong Kong has adequate capacity to meet demands generated by local manufacturing and trading activities, as well as those arising out of rapid economic growth in Southern China, the
Hong Kong Government aims to provide in a timely manner efficient and high-capacity port facilities. To this end, a
revised Port Development Plan and Programme has recently been drawn up.
