Surveys on the Governor's policy address as reported by the media

A telephone survey conducted by the HKU asked respondents their rating of the policy address auû the Governor. Commissioned by TVB, the survey covered about 2,000 people. Results showed that 75.2 per cent were satisfied with the policy address, 8.4 per cent said that they were not satisfied with it and 16.3 per cent said they had no views. As for their rating of the Governor, Mr Patten was given 64.5 out of a full mark of 100. The survey was reported in Sing Pao. Tin Tin Daily News and the HK Economic Journal.

A survey commissioned by ATV was conducted by the Polling and Business Research Centre. Out of the 1,410 people selected by random sampling, 437 said that they had noted the policy address. Out of this group, 85 per cent said that they supported the proposed expenditure on social welfare, education and medical services. As for the political blueprint, half of the respondents said that the pace was right, with some 20 per cent thinking that it was slightly too fast. On Mr Patten's attitude towards China, over 50 per cent gave their support. Close to 80 per cent of the respondents gave the policy address a pass mark or above, with the average being 6.47 out of a full mark of 10. The survey was reported in Sing Pao Ming Fo. the HK Economic Times and the United Daily News.
