Reaction to Governor's Speech
as at 12 noon (7 October)
RTHK (Chinese) mainly focused on constitutional aspects of the speech. The initial reaction from "most people" interviewed said the separation of Exco and Legco was a backward step. It seems that the "most people" refers to Liberal Democrats. Yeung Sum was one of those interviewed and he saw the move as a negative one. However, Dr.
Dr. Joseph Cheng, of the Government's "think-tank" welcomed it.
On Functional Constituency, most reaction was positive. However, those interviewed gave mixed reaction on the implications of the constitutional changes for political parties. Some believed that there would be negative impact, others felt that there would be no effect.
On new Exco Line-un, Peggy Lan, Legco member said there were too many academics. Others said the absence of big business in the Council was welcomed.
