A SUMMARY OF POLICIES AND INITIATIVES
THE ECONOMY
Projections
(a) Growth should average 5% p.a. to 1997.
(b) Foreign trade should amount to US$548 billion by 1997.
(c) Per capita GDP should reach US$30,500 by 1997.
Policies
(a) TO maintain prudent fiscal policies (including a low tax
regime).
(b) TO attack barriers to the growth and competitiveness of
the economy.

TO preserve a stable currency (including the HK$/US$ link).
To protect the disadvantaged against the impact of inflation by preserving the value of social security

Initiatives

(b) To work with the Consumer Council and the Business to protect consumers and to promote free

markets.
(c) To create a Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
