sir,
Appointment of Queen's Counsel for 1992
I have the honour
to submit for your consideration the application of Mr Neville Sarony for appointment as Her Majesty's Counsel for Hong Kong. The application has been put to me by the Chief Justice with his support.
Mr Neville Sarony is 52 and has practised in Hong Kong since 1985. He practised in London between 1968 and 1984 and also had a few years practising in Nepal before that. Most of Mr Sarony's work is in criminal and common law. He is highly regarded as a very competent criminal lawyer by the Judiciary and fellow practitioners.
The Chief Justice has, in accordance with his normal practice, consulted the Attorney General, the Chairman of the Bar Association, the President of the Law Society, a Justice of Appeal and two High Court Judges. All support this application.
The Chief Justice has advised me that Hong Kong is short of criminal silks (several of the present group being inactive). The appointment of Mr Sarony, with his experience in criminal work, will help to provide some additional expertise in this area.
