I am grateful for your offer to extend to HMOCS officers the opportunity to apply for inward transfer to the Diplomatic Service on pensionable terms. We would like to follow this idea up. Our initial impression is that a number of our more junior HMOCS officers in the 30 to 40 age bracket might be interested. But many of these will already be at AOSGC. Is there any possibility of increasing the quota at the DS5 rank or of including one or two posts at DS4 level?
In addition, on a technical point, would any officer found suitable for transfer to the Diplomatic Service be expected to retire from HMOCS and start afresh on pensionable terms or transfer to the Diplomatic Service with a mixed service HMOCS/Diplomatic Service pension? Can I suggest that your subject officer contacts Michael Waters of our Civil Service Branch to discuss details such as this?
