2. SED has no objection to your advising Hong Kong of forthcoming DT jobs in the terms suggested by WIAD as modified by Mr Stone's minute of 3 July. As you may know, however, Ministers will consider over the next year whether the next Governor of Gibraltar should be a civilian (politician) rather than, as hitherto, a retired military officer. So the Deputy Governor post, traditionally a DS4 appointment, might become the only slot of possible interest to Hong Kong. I imagine you would wish to preserve this as a DS post.
