Posts in Other Dependent Territories : Police Officers

when we first raised this issue we asked that arrangements be made to consider our HMOCS officers for posts such as Governor, Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary, Attorney General, Commissioner of Police and Director of Special Branch in other Dependent Territories.

Since then arrangements have been introduced for our HMOCS Administrative officers to apply for and be considered for administrative posts in other Dependent Territories. In addition ODA have been circulating details of their other vacancies under the British Aid Programme : these include Police vacancies.

However it appears from the enclosed papers and the submission from the HMOCS Association that the overseas Police Adviser is not aware of recent developments in this area including the assurance by the Minister of State. In the case of our HMOCS Police Officers, they should be considered for these posts in other Dependent Territories on the same basis as our Administrative officers : i.e. considered alongside any other internal candidates before outside recruitment is resorted to. I believe that this is accepted policy.
