Britton was born on 19th August, 1943 in
He is a married man with 3 teenage children.
He was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield and then attended Leeds University and the College of Law in Guildford.

He was articled to solicitors in December 1959 and admitted in January 1965. He then changed direction and became a pupil barrister in November 1976 and was called to the Bar in May 1977. He was in private practice until he came to Hong Kong as a Magistrate in May 1986.

He has adapted quickly and well to work in Hong Kong and has presided both in Magistrates and Juvenile Courts. He is considered to be a pleasant, hardworking Magistrate with a sound knowledge of the law and a particular interest in juvenile work. In his last annual staff report his overall performance was noted as very good. There has been no criticism of his work by Judges hearing appeals.

Mr. Britton has shown a lively interest in life in Hong Kong and has made a major contribution to the drafting of a Guide for New Magistrates.

His present contract expires in May 1989 and he now applies for transfer to permanent and pensionable establishment.

Mr. Britton's application was considered by the Judiciary Appointments Committee on the 11th of August and they unanimously resolved to advise the Chief Justice this application should be supported.

Members will be asked to consider this Paper at the next meeting of the Commission. Mr. Britton's staff report file will be available at the meeting but may be inspected in the Registrar's Chambers beforehand.
