This circular announces the implementation of the New Pension Scheme for Judicial Officers (NPS(JO)) following the enactment of the Pension Benefits (Judicial Ordinance and Regulations 1988 on 23 December 1988.

officer appointed or re-appointed to the judicial service on or after 1 July 1987, including those on transfer from other public service, on terms which attract pension benefits;

serving officer on pensionable terms under the old pension scheme governed by the Pensions Ordinance (Cap. 89) whose application to join the new scheme is approved; and

former judicial officer who retired under the old pension scheme on or after 1 July 1987 and who has opted to join the new scheme.

65 years for District Court Judges appointed on or after 1. January 1987 (but the retirement age for District Court Judges appointed. before that date remains at 60);
