HMOCS: ELIGIBILITY FOR COMPENSATION

I am putting up a submission separately recommending that we issue a statement extending the period during which eligible members of the Judiciary can apply for membership of HMOCS until 31 August.

2. If we are to issue such a statement, there is a second issue which could be covered in it. This concerns whether compensation payments should be limited to the period that officers were actually enrolled in HMOCs. strongly that Ministers should be invited to take a decision that any service "bought back" by HMOCS officers for the purpose of pension should not count for compensation payable under our proposed schemes in the case of former contract officers admitted to membership of HMOCS after the date of ratification of the JD. I see the logic of his case, but am very doubtful about the political wisdom of taking on the officers who would be affected (mainly in the Judiciary) just when we shall be trying to build support for our revised package.
