I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to offer you appointment on behalf of the Government of Hong Kong as a Judge of the High Court of Hong Kong on the terms and conditions set out in this letter and in the attached Memorandum on Conditions of Service for Judges of the High Court appointed on overseas and annual leave agreement terms', and subject to a satis- factory medical report by the Consulting Physician at the Overseas Development Administration. A medical appointment has been made for you at 10.30 am on 30 September. If this time is not convenient, perhaps you would be kind enough to contact Miss Sayers on 213-6863 at ODA to arrange another appointment. Please take the attached forms with you.
The salary for this appointment is currently HK$33,950 per month (approximately £36,696 per annum at the current rate of exchange). This is point DJL6 in the Judicial/Legal Group of the Directorate Pay Scale.
The appointment is for the period from the date of your assumption of duty of the office of Judge of the High Court until the date on which you attain the age of sixty-two. Subject
Subject to the advice of the Hong Kong Judicial Service Commission and the approval of the Secretary of State, this may be extended for a period not exceeding three years as may be agreed between yourself and the Governor of Hồng Kong.
This offer of appointment is conditional upon your giving an undertaking not to return to private practice, without the consent of the Governor of Hong Kong or the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in the territories of Hong Kong or in any territory to which the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong may be extended.
You are asked to state whether you wish to take up the appointment on the terms and conditions set out above and in the attached Memorandum. Should you accept this offer and make the undertaking set out above, and should the medical report be satisfactory further letter will be sent to you informing you that your selection is confirmed.
